Cardinal Pediatric Therapy Services is a home and community based practice providing exceptional care to children ages 0-18 years in the Hampton Roads and surrounding areas. Pediatric therapies focus on the development, health, and wellness of your child to include their gross motor (large motor movements), fine motor (smaller, more intricate movements, commonly of the hands), sensory integration, and expressive or receptive language skills. While we are currently offering pediatric physical therapy services, we are planning to grow our team to speech and occupational therapy in the near future, so if your child needs any or all of the services, don’t hesitate to reach out. Pediatric specialists focus on the development of the child, taking into consideration all aspects of their life, and creating a plan of care to help them achieve their milestones. Is your child on their own timeline for development? Our specialists will meet your child where they are and with your family values in mind to help them succeed. Because of your investment in your child and their growth and development, the clinicians of CPTS will meet your child where it matters most: their natural environment. That means, we come to your house, the local playground, or any place you feel your child needs the support of a therapist. The staff at CPTS is dedicated to innovative, evidence-based, and family-centered practice. The child and family’s values are considered in every aspect of creating a plan of care and all goals.
Because we aren’t bound to the traditional schedules of an outpatient clinic, at Cardinal Pediatric Therapy Services we have the flexibility to find a time that works for your child and their caregivers. We will honor nap times, feeding schedules/meal times, and family values in our scheduling process. We know how difficult managing multiple children and schedules as working parents can be, so talk to your therapist or case manager to determine a time that you feel optimal progress will be made.
You name it! Does your family love hiking, but your little one struggles navigating the trails at Freedom Park? Our therapist will meet you there and create a therapeutic program to support your family’s values and goals. Maybe you have a child who is struggling to sit up in a grocery cart at the local store. We will meet you there! Are you tired of going out to appointments, but your child has aged out of early intervention? No worries! We will come to your house. Does your child attend a private school where special education services aren’t readily available? We will work with your child’s school and see how we can support their educational program. The possibilities are endless when it comes to where.
Research has shown that children who learn and practice developmental skills in their natural environment are more successful in obtaining their goals. Children who work with a therapist in their natural environment have more opportunities to practice the skill because the therapist develops a plan within the context of their day. Having a therapist meet you where it matters builds parent and caregiver buy-in which will also promote their success. It will also build your confidence to support your child when a therapist uses tools and supplies you already have access to. Traditional outpatient therapy services have benefits and opportunities to utilize equipment you typically don’t see at home, but these skills don’t always translate to real life. At Cardinal Pediatric Therapy Services, we have seen the successful outcomes of the early intervention system and want to continue that throughout the developmental years for children. Providing services in the natural environment promotes inclusion and the development of meaningful social skills, and Cardinal Pediatric Therapy Services is committed to their mission to provide Service that makes friends.
